Wedding Blues: The Emotional Come Down After Your Wedding

Your wedding day (or wedding weekend!) is one of the most magical times of your life. But what happens after the magic fades and reality sets in? Many couples experience a phenomenon known as the "wedding blues"—an emotional comedown after the excitement and whirlwind of wedding planning and celebration. It's completely normal and we wanted to provide some tips on how to navigate it.

Plan to Take Time Off

After months, or even years, of planning your perfect weekend, being surrounded by family and friends who may have traveled far, and essentially being a celebrity for the night, it’s time to give yourself a break. Consider taking a few days off work immediately after the wedding. This downtime allows you to relax, reflect, and bask in the glow of your recent celebration without the pressure of returning to daily routines right away.

Delay Your Honeymoon

While jetting off to a new destination right after the wedding sounds appealing, you might find it more enjoyable to plan your honeymoon for a few weeks or even months later. Post-wedding fatigue is real, and it can be hard to fully enjoy an international flight or a busy itinerary when you're exhausted. Delaying your honeymoon gives you something to look forward to and ensures you’re well-rested and ready to make the most of your trip. Also, planning a honeymoon after the wedding could help with the blues, as it's another big event to plan and look forward to!

Plan Post-Wedding Activities

Honeymoon or not, the celebration doesn’t have to end just because the wedding is over. Plan something special to look forward to, like a weekend getaway, a fun date night, or get that fur baby you've always wanted! Having another event on the horizon (even if it's waiting for the professional photos to arrive) can keep the excitement alive and help you transition from the high of your wedding day to everyday life.

Pamper Yourself

One of the best ways to combat the post-wedding blues is to indulge in self-care. Book relaxing activities and treat yourself to a massage or a spa day. Whether you're back home or still at your wedding location, especially if it was a destination wedding, these little luxuries can help you decompress and provide a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of wedding planning.

Different Cultural Approaches

In some cultures, like in arranged marriages, there is often a built-in adjustment period after the wedding. While arranged marriages might not be as common in all communities, the idea of easing into married life with support and time to adjust is universal. If you and your partner were already dating, this transition might be smoother, but it’s still important to give yourselves grace and time.

Looking Forward to Many Moons to Come

Remember, your wedding is just the beginning of a lifelong journey together. There will be many more special moments and "moons" to come. Embrace this period of transition, take care of yourselves, and cherish the memories you’ve created. The post-wedding blues are temporary, but the love and life you’re building together will last a lifetime.

Here’s to many happy moons ahead!
